The Story of Smashcralibur (The Reycralibur Requiem Project)

Chapter 1

Hoo, boy. Where do I start?

I was in that phase every Smash Bros machinima director experiences when they first start out. Nothing but anime on the brain and the need to write some fanfiction. Revision 1 and 2 refers to the first two incarnations of Reycralibur, creatively titled Smashcralibur.

Because I was an iconoclast even at this stage, making a machinima in the original game with mods wasn't enough. I choose the trio of Mario, Ness, and Samus as the main characters in a story that had the three sent to an alternate dimension - an alternate Dairantou. There they meet alternate versions of Link (Neo), Kirby, (Skyru), and Fox (Ridi). How Mario and co. got to this world differs between the first two incarnations but the important part is, in order to get back, they need to recover the three pieces of the eponymous sword. But beware! The evil General Gorus / Gorous (again, it differs) of the 13th Battalion and the sinister forces of Black Nebula are also after the sword. Smashcralibur is apparently so powerful that it created the alternate world, and it falls upon Neo and his fellow guardians (I refuse to type the original stupid name for the group) to defend the sword from Black Nebula and prevent them from conquering the world. Naturally, an evil version of Donkey Kong was the antagonist because DK was the closest thing to a bad guy the original roster had.

There was a strong influence from Sonic X as far as the relationship between Mario and Neo goes. Neo and his companions were rookie guardians, and he figured he could learn a thing or two from the pasta-loving, alien plumber. Another motif was that the characters in the alternate world all had shared memories of their prime universe counterparts. This was a big motivator for Mercenary Kay, the AU Luigi. To rid himself of Luigi’s memories, he would be driven to kill Mario and destroy Smashcralibur.

When all was said and done, I spent more time daydreaming and brainstorming ideas for the series then actually filming anything. It was for the best; the first two incarnations were unbearable looking back. Revision 1 was so bad, the second episode wound up being a soft reboot - the start of Revision 2.
